Your brand is your superpower

Illuminated female superhero representing the power of claiming your gifts and superpowers in branding

Have you ever felt, or been called, too much? Perhaps it was about something you can't control, like being too tall, or too short, or too skinny, or having hair that's too dark or too curly, in which case the critic can go away now thankyouverymuch. But maybe it was about something else that you feel you can - and therefore should - control: too loud, too audacious, too dreamy, too girlish, too boyish, too quiet, too spiritual, too bookish, too bossy, too perfect (yes, that's one of many I grew up hearing!), too, too, too... and you felt yourself try to shrink, to please, to conform, to be less in some way, and apologize for yourself.

But what if all those critics, especially the ones inside your head, are wrong? What if you're not TOO anything?

In fact, what if all your TOOness is actually your greatest gift?  What if it's your hidden superpower? What if it's the very spark the Divine lit within you that, if shone brightly enough, will help heal and transform the world in the way only you can?

Recently, I've been reading Professional Troublemaker by Luvvie Ajayi Jones (not an affiliate link), a fun, in-your-face, own-your-power, take-up-space book, and she posits these very thoughts, which inspired me and got me thinking about how this relates not just to the authentic self, but to artistry and branding as well.

Your most authentic personal brand is crafted from your superpowers, your strengths, your gifts, your exquisitely unique magic that only you possess.

But your superpowers are also what come so naturally to you that you might not even see them, and they're often disguised as the very things you've been taught to dislike or distrust about yourself.

Your too much-ness.

So my invitation for you this month is to examine and explore, through journaling, dancing, creating, musing, whatever your processing flavor of choice:

  • What have I believed is too much about me?

  • How does it feel in my body when I reject these qualities and try to change?

  • Who would I be, how might I behave, if I embraced these qualities instead, and how would embracing them feel in my body?

  • What would be the message of my brand if I claimed these qualities as my superpower, as my gift and medicine for the world?

The world needs you, in all your glory, in all your radiant too-much-ness. Shine out, my friend!
