Meet Slipper Scholtz Studio — quilter, painter, social justice advocate, attorney

Jill Slipper Scholtz, Esq., is a quilter, artist, and social justice advocate whose creative journey began at age four under her grandmother’s guidance. For over 30 years, she has used quilting to explore racial identity, vulnerability, and personal growth, sharing her work through exhibits, talks, and longarm quilting services. Her quilts reflect a deeply personal yet universally resonant story, evolving alongside her understanding of racial equity.

A licensed attorney, mediator, and facilitator, Jill brings more than 20 years of experience in racial equity work, trained in conflict resolution, restorative justice, and courageous conversations about race™. Holding a Conflict Resolution certificate from the Dispute Resolution Institute at Mitchell Hamline and serving as a qualified neutral in Minnesota, she blends artistry and advocacy, weaving creativity, reflection, and social impact into all aspects of her work.

Project Highlights

Project Goals

Jill's previous site, a Google Sites page, was functional at best. It couldn't carry the visual weight of her art, didn't reflect the depth of her mission, and wasn't giving potential clients or community members a reason to stay, explore, or reach out.

She was ready for a website that would:

  • Represent the full scope of who she is — artist, advocate, and service provider — without apology or compromise

  • Showcase her fiber art, paintings, and social justice quilts in a way that honored their emotional and political power

  • Make her longarm quilting services easy to find and understand for prospective clients

  • Invite visitors into the larger conversation around quilts, racial equity, and community

  • Feel unmistakably her — warm, textured, grounded, and courageous

The “before”

When Jill came to me, she had little more than a simple DIY page describing a few longarm quilting patterns.

She arrived through a referral from a mutual client and friend with a specific frustration: she'd been told by others that she couldn't possibly bring all of her passions — quilter, painter, attorney, social justice advocate — into a single cohesive site. That they were too different, too many, too much.

I told her that wasn't true at all.

Strategy plays a part, for sure. But incorporating the fullness of each client's personality into their brand is my hallmark — and Jill didn't need to choose which version of herself to present. She needed a site that was finally big enough to hold all of her.

Colors & Fonts

Jill’s art, passion, and personality are vibrant and creative.

Pulling colors from her artwork, we selected a palette that unifies her work and grabs attention, just as her mission does.

The font pairing of a whimsical sans with a more traditional sans echoes the intention of her artwork: to foster advocacy and community through creativity.

Logo and Visuals

The primary logo and brand mark draws from Jill’s quilts and paintings, speaking directly to Jill’s craft and unifying her artwork. The quilted leaf motif is also a nod to growth, seasons, community and the organic nature of her work.

Primary Logo

Brand Mark

The brand personality that arose from the initial visioning call was warm, hopeful, empowering, and confident, which anchors the visuals, layout, and site flow, in addition to the logo, colors, and font.

Using her color scheme and artwork, I wove words, pops of color, and images in a collage throughout each page. The result is a site that grabs attention, conveys the power of creativity, and weaves the story of advocacy naturally, just as Jill’s art, stories, and services do.

The Website

After establishing the brand direction, the new site was built out across dedicated pages that each serve a distinct audience and purpose — all connected by a cohesive visual thread.

The completed website comprised of 4 main elements:

  • Core pages: Home, About, Services, & Contact

  • Portfolio pages for Quilt, Fiber, and Paint

  • Blog to educate, inspire, and connect

  • Etsy shop integration

  • Community building through Squarespace E-mail Campaigns

Results

After our work together, Jill finally has a site that truly reflects the depth and breadth of her passion, personality, and work that she can share with prospective clients, collaborators, and collectors without hesitation.

With dedicated gallery pages for each artform, Jill's quilts and paintings can be seen as a collective body of work, and the social justice work is no longer buried. Her mission has its own narrative and a clear invitation for community members and event organizers to reach out.

Best of all, her artist philosophy is made visible through a site that invites exploration, connection, and transformation through creativity.

Here are some of the project highlights:

  • A brand that honors the whole person

After exploring the through lines, the new brand holds all of all of who Jill is - artist, advocate, and activist! All without flattening any of it into a single easy label.

  • Clarity for every visitor

Whether someone arrives looking for longarm services, social justice quilts, or Jill's story, the site now guides them effortlessly to what they need.

  • A platform worthy of her work

Jill's quilts and paintings are filled with joy and meaning. The new site gives her art the visual space and context it deserves.

  • Easy to maintain independently

Built on Squarespace, Jill can add new quilts, blog posts, and service updates herself — no developer required.

In her own words…

Angela was a pure pleasure to work with! I had a unique vision for my website and she nailed it! People who know me well and view my site say “it is so YOU!” That is exactly what I was looking for!
